I just want to clear a few things up! The adoption group we got Max from is incredibly thorough in figuring out the temperament/personalities of the dogs. Every greyhound they receive is put through different ‘tests’ (for lack of a better word). One of those is introducing the grey to a cat to see how they react, and if a future forever home with a cat could be suitable for that particular hound. Max reacted VERY strongly to the cat and immediately went into prey drive and wanted to attack it. Some greys are totally fine with cats, Max was not.
Max does have some behavioural issues (that he has had since his life at the track). We were told he had to be taken out separately from the other dogs there. He was adopted out to 2 other families before finding us both of which returned him to the adoption groups. We were informed of all of this prior to adopting and understood he had a special temperament.
This introduction to Dasha was incredibly important Dasha is my best friends dog and I am often at their house. We wanted to take baby steps to ensure they were both safe in the process and we really didn’t want to ruin their friendship right off the bat. As mentioned in the comment above, we will always use a muzzle with Max when he is running outside with her because he gets very competitive. He was only ever muzzled inside with her at the beginning, and I’m happy we took the precautions because they now coexist with one another easily and we never have to worry!
