Singing Savannah Sparrow

Follow
Brian Willson

A Savannah Sparrow sings one of my favorite bird songs—subtle, sibilant, almost insectlike, and with a little hiccup at the end (but carries a long way)—while poking about on a newmown barren at Beech Hill Preserve in Rockport, Maine, early the morning of 08 May 2015. Watch for a fleeting glimpse of another Savannah zipping by—and toward the end you’ll be able to contrast the song of this soft troubadour with the ringing, operatic chimes and trills of a Song Sparrow in the background.
