John Michael Gaudreau was an American professional ice hockey winger who enjoyed an 11season career in the National Hockey League (NHL). At the time of his passing, reports state that his net worth was around $10 million — though he had just signed a $69 million contract with the Blue Jackets. He played college hockey for the Boston College Eagles from 2011 to 2014 and was drafted by the Calgary Flames in the fourth round, 104th overall, of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. Known as "Johnny Hockey," Gaudreau won the Hobey Baker Award in 2014, recognizing him as the top player in NCAA hockey. During his first full NHL season in 201415, he was selected for the 2015 NHL AllStar Game and named to the 2014 NHL AllRookie Team. Gaudreau was also a Calder Memorial Trophy finalist for best rookie and won the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy as the NHL's most gentlemanly player for the 201617 season. In 2022, he signed with the Columbus Blue Jackets, where he played for two seasons before his untimely death.
