CEO of a trucking company, Keith Wilson, is leading in preliminary ranked choice voting results in the race for Portland mayor, according to unofficial results released by Multnomah County on Tuesday night.

In a single winner ranked choice contest, like this race, rounds of tabulation are conducted that eliminate candidates with the fewest votes. Votes from eliminated candidates are transferred to the voter's next preference. Rounds continue until one candidate receives 50% +1.

Nearly 20 people ran for the mayor's seat this year, and for the first time, Portland voters could rank their top six candidates by their preference.
