On July 26, 1999, the Kargil war came to an end. It was the last war that India fought with Pakistan. It began when Pakistan tried to capture Indian military posts. New Delhi hit back, taking control of all the territories. The war went on for 2 months. But in the end India emerged victorious. Today, the country marked 25 years of that victory, with prime minister Narendra Modi visiting the Kargil war memorial in Dras.
