What is not on the Internet. Once I saw a beautiful blanket made from pieces of fabric. It's like a patchwork style, but different. I looked and read, and it turns out that this is how the “Yesenin Blanket” is sewn. Half of the work is done by hand.
It is a large rectangular canvas with an original ornament, which consists of squares. This blanket is unique, it turns out to be doublesided.
I immediately wanted to do this for myself. The first thought that came to me was that it will remain for my children.
Everyone sews it differently. Many people try to do the job faster and sew it entirely on a sewing machine. But for this you need to have skill so that the fabric does not warp.
How to sew:
1) First you need to choose a fabric so that you like the color combination.
2) For work I prepared 15x15 cm squares. Of course, you can take your own sizes. For one part you need to take 4 squares.
3) First, sew 2 squares on the machine. We smooth out the seams so that they look in different directions. It turns out 2 rectangles from 2 squares. We connect them with the right sides inward and sew them on 3 sides like a cap.
4) Connect the open side in this way.
5) Sew, leaving a hole in the middle for turning.
6) It turns out to be a square with a size of 18x18 cm. When turning inside out, there is no need to cut the corners; it is better to fold the allowances at right angles.
7) Be sure to iron all the workpieces. We cut out blanks 18x18 cm from padding polyester and insert them into squares. We sew the hole manually with a hidden seam.
8) Now on each square in each sector we draw lines at right angles and along them we manually sew the lines forward with a needle (dotted line). Do not tighten the knot on the thread, pierce the needle from the desired place 1.5–2 cm further, pull the thread, leaving a 2 cm tip and make a knot on the fabric, then cut off the protruding thread.
9) The fabric on each side of the square is diagonal, so it can stretch, which is why it is better to sew everything by hand to adjust the length of the sides.
10) Now we sew each square together, first 2 pieces, then 4. Then we connect everything together.
This is a very painstaking job, and no matter how hard you try, you won’t be able to do it quickly.
It took me six months to complete all the work, not every day. But, if you do only this, you can get it done in 2 weeks.
I really like the result, you can see how much love and work was put into this work.
All the best!
