When the Hoover Dam was built in 1935, it created the largest man made reservoir in the United States, Lake Mead. The land that Lake Mead covered wasn't just barren uninhabited land, it had been the site of a number of settlements, going back thousands of years.

Pueblo Grande de Nevada, also known as the Lost City, was a series of ancient Native American villages that dated back to AD 300. It was rediscovered in 1924, but when Lake Mead was created in 1935, it was lost again, submerged under the lake's waters.

In 1865, Mormon pioneers founded the town of St. Thomas. The town would go on to be the county seat for Arizona's PahUte County (despite not being in Arizona at the time) and would be an important stop on the Arrowhead Trail automobile route. The town disappeared when the waters of Lake Mead reached it in 1938.

In this video we visit the Lost City Museum in Overton, Nevada to see a recreation of some of the ruins that were built in the 1930s when they realized the site would be lost then head to the site of the town of St. Thomas, that after years of drought has reemerged from the waters.
