What is technical failure? Why does training to technical failure help prevent injury? Learn the what and whys.
We talk a lot about strengthening the deep stabilizer muscles versus the more visible superficial muscles. Keeping the balance is key to maintaining healthy joints during what you love to do.
The most important part is to stop your exercise at or just before technical failure. If you keep pushing past technical failure, you will teach your neuromuscular system bad habits and wear out your passive tissues faster, among other side effects.
Then, you'll learn how to pay attention to your form and the cues to look for as your form starts to break down. It will depend on your sport or specific exercise. But for good general guidelines, start with:
1) Neutral spine
2) Go through the full range of motion
3) Rhythm between your joints
Keep at it. Avoiding imbalances and tissue damage will help in the long run.
