What if Formula 1 had always used the 2025 points system?

Recently, Formula 1 announced that from 2025, the point awarded for fastest lap in each race will be abolished. Formula 1 has gone through a myriad of different points systems over the years, and now we’ll be adopting another new one. At a glance, you may say, “well, we’re just reverting back to the points system used from 20102018” but it’s not quite that simple. There were no sprint races at that time, but also, there was a rather simple system utilised for races where less than 75% of the race distance was covered, whereby halfpoints were awarded. After the farce that was the 2021 Belgian Grand Prix, the FIA introduced a rather more complex system whereby if fewer than two laps are completed not behind the safety car, no points are awarded at all; if between two laps and 24% race distance is completed, the top five drivers get points; if 2549% of the race distance is completed, the top nine score points; and if 5074% of the race distance is completed, the top 10 get points, but a reduced amount.

This one measly change however was all the excuse I needed to rewrite the results of every single Formula 1 season with this new points system, and level out the playing field somewhat, seeing who gains and loses Championships as a result. So, let’s get started.
