What do the French eat for breakfast? Let's head out to the grocery store and take a look at what breakfast foods are available and then get into what a typical French breakfast looks like. What kinds of foods do the French eat and drink for their morning meal? How does a French breakfast compare to what you eat in the morning?

A fun fact is that le petitdéjeuner is the French word for breakfast and means "little lunch" since déjeuner is lunch, but let's dig deeper into that etymology. Like in English, the French "break the fast" too. The verb jeûner means "to fast" so déjeuner (lunch) is breaking the fast, with breakfast being a "petit" déjeuner. Love it!
