Many churches and believers today have essentially likened the gifts of the Spirit to a set of decorative hand towels—not for use. Some say they’re no longer in operation. Others are skeptical or cautious because misuse has taken people down “weird” roads leading to chaos and conflict. Nonetheless, amid this confusion, many are still seeking and asking, “Are the gifts still in operation, and should we welcome the gifts of the Spirit in our lives?” In this message, let’s uncover WHY we should desire these gifts in our lives and churches.
Pastor Sam Storms discusses the gifts of the Holy Spirit in a sermon based on 1 Corinthians 12. He shares his personal journey from skepticism to embracing the manifestation of the Spirit. The passage mentions nine gifts, including wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, miracles, prophecy, discernment, tongues, and interpretation. Storms emphasizes the importance of earnestly desiring and utilizing these gifts for the common good and building up the Church. He provides biblical examples and contemporary instances of these gifts in action. The gifts are empowered by the Holy Spirit and distributed according to His will.
Many churches and the lives of many believers in our day suffer from spiritual boredom and the absence of power to change things for the better. In contrast, God’s Word tells us many stories of people who consistently experienced the supernatural—yet too often today we do not. So, why not? Why not with us? What are we missing? In this series, let’s explore who the Holy Spirit is and how to walk in a greater measure of his power.
