For the first time in history, researchers at the Max Plankton Institute in the Netherlands have recorded piano music practised by a common water flea. First light of the phenomenon was obtained using darkfield microscopy.

The research is expected to be nominated for the Breakthrough Of The Yearaward from the prestigious journal Science, as the finding sheds a whole new perspective on the origin of live music.

The award is one of the highest distinctions in science.
