the irony of saying it's bad to be surface level, yet the movie is itself surface level i was really hoping for a better adaptation, but in a weird way, it made me appreciate the book even more. I had a lot of fun revisiting the Uglies series and noticing all the smart details i missed when i was younger.
while I'm disappointed, i still love Scott Westerfeld for writing such an original story and Joey King for giving the best Tally she could given the circumstances if they make Pretties, I really hope they tell the story with the same depth and creativity as the books.
hope you enjoy this review/book to movie comparison!
