Shortly after the biggest fleet of single handed sailors set of on the legendary Vendée Globe Race, the nonstop race around the world, two giant 32m long Ultim trimarans with full crew set out on their separate bids to lay down a new record time for a lap of the planet and win the Jules Verne Trophy.
SVR Lazartigue and Sodebo started two weeks behind the IMOCA fleet but their staggering pace would they mean if all went to plan they would overtake the Vendée fleet and finish weeks ahead of the leader.
