Thunder is loud and scary. But it can't really hurt you. Lightning on the other hand, is genuinely dangerous! And you get both thunder and lightning in THUNDERSTORMS.

Today we'll talk about how thunderstorms happen. First, we'll look at the special clouds involved: CUMULONIMBUS clouds. Next we'll think about what happens inside the clouds that leads to electricity building up and eventually discharging in the form of lightning.
Did you know there are different kinds of lightning? We will talk about the several kinds that can happen during thunderstorms, including cloud to cloud lightning, and cloud to ground lightning. There are more. We'll save ball lightning for another video!
