The Luangwa River in Zambia is home to more crocodiles than anywhere else on earth. They thrive here because the landscape is deadlier than any predator. The Luangwa is the last surviving water source during the hot summer months but many animals don't make it. One of the most feared predators in the world is the lion. Capable of speeds over 60km per hour they can kill any large mammal in Africa. Wild dogs the size of household pets conquer prey more than 10 times their size, and the tiny mongoose's tight family unit keeps it out of trouble. Buffalo travel in herds up to 1,000 strong, and when threatened, they attack in force.
During the annual Sardine Run, a superpod of common dolphins up to 5,000 strong rely on their military precision to outmaneuver sharks and feed on the plentiful sardines.
