In fact, the earliest known descriptions of cancer date all the way back to Ancient Egypt, around 1600 BCE, where doctors wrote about tumors and tried to treat them.

The word 'cancer' itself comes from the Greek word 'karkinos,' which means crab, used by the famous doctor Hippocrates to describe the way tumors looked.

Over the centuries, our understanding of this disease has grown, leading us to the advanced treatments we have today.
