The Secret Brazilian LEGEND You Never Heard Of!

In 1963, a remarkable story began in Brazil when Italian immigrant Rino Malzoni dared to challenge the giants of the automotive world. From his humble farm workshop in Matão, he created the Puma GTE, a sleek sports car that would go on to become Brazil's most successful automotive venture. This incredible tale shows how passion and determination can overcome seemingly impossible odds.

Malzoni started by customizing simple vehicles before establishing Sociedade de Automóveis Lumimari with three partners. Their first creation, the GT Malzoni, proved its worth by dominating races at Interlagos. The company soon rebranded as Puma and evolved through various successful models, most notably the Puma GTE in 1970. This beautiful machine stood less than 47 inches tall and was crowned "Brazil's Most Beautiful Car" by Quatro Rodas magazine, with legendary designer Nuccio Bertone on the judging panel.

Over three decades, Puma produced more than 22,000 vehicles and exported to 50 countries. The company expanded into truck manufacturing and even established licensed production in South Africa. Their most successful model, the GTE, saw 8,800 units produced, featuring design elements inspired by European sports cars like the Lamborghini Miura. Despite facing numerous challenges, including factory fires and financial difficulties, Puma continued to innovate and adapt.

Though production ended in 1999, the Puma legacy lives on through enthusiasts and collectors. The brand experienced a revival in 2013 as Puma Automóveis Ltda, developing new projects like the GT Lumimari. Today, modified Pumas like Pascal Klein's 1976 GTE showcase how these classic cars can be reimagined while maintaining their elegant original design.
