Baking Soda Test Instructions:
Mix 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda in 1/2 cup of water.
Drink the solution on an empty stomach.
Time how long it takes you to burp.
If you burp within 23 minutes, you have adequate stomach acid levels. If you don't burp within 23 minutes, you may have low stomach acid levels.
The test results will be more accurate if you do it a few mornings in a row

Dr. Michelle also explains that antacids and proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) can actually make the problem worse by turning off stomach acid production. She recommends addressing the underlying problem of low stomach acid instead of just using antacids or PPIs to mask the symptoms.
