Jack Tatum was one of the most formidable hitters in the NFL, acting as a true Pro Bowlworthy safety. Tatum terrorized opponents with his punishing blows. His intimidating presence helped transform the Oakland Raiders into one of the most feared teams of his era. Recognized by NFL Films as the sixth hardest hitter in NFL history, Tatum was selected for three Pro Bowls and holds the record for the longest fumble return in NFL history, a feat that was only matched 28 years later.

For many, Tatum's career will only be truly complete when he is included in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. However, many believe that this honor will never be granted to him due to a tragic incident during a preseason game when one of his hits left New England Patriots receiver Darryl Stingley paralyzed from the neck down.
