http://www.devrylaw.ca/torontoemploy.... In this video, Toronto employment lawyer Marty Rabinovitch discusses both sides of terminating an employee with cause or without cause. He is interviewed by Joe Terceira on the Real Estate 101 Show.

Marty explains why is it important for someone who was just terminated from their job to speak with an employment lawyer. For example, it is important for someone who has just lost their job to understand their employment rights and to ensure the severance package they have been offered is fair and in accordance with the laws.

Often the employer will not make their best offer the first time, so an employment lawyer can help the employee negotiate a better severance package. There are a lot of benefits in consulting an employment lawyer.

On the other side, an employer should speak with an employment lawyer before they terminate an employee. First an employer may have "just cause" to terminate an employee without a severance package. If an employee is going to be terminated "without cause", the employment lawyer could help the employer craft the severance package to ensure it meets all the legal requirements.
