Hurricane Milton is currently out in the Gulf of Mexico & has escalated in intensity very quickly to become a category 5 hurricane. Winds of 180 mph have been recorded as it makes its way toward the coast of Florida.
The path where Hurricane Milton is expected to hit is from North Ft Myers up through Tampa Bay before it heads across the central part of Florida. This has been called the storm of the century and everyone is taking extreme precautions to protect and prepare for this storm. It is expected to hit sometime in the early evening on Wednesday Oct 9th.
As viewers of the nest, be prepared for the loss of the internet connection to the cams, power outages, flooding in the area surrounding the nest.
Back in 2022, Hurricane Ian hit the Ft Myers area and Harriet and M15 lost their nest. Immediately after that hurricane, it took them 23 days to return to the nest tree. Upon seeing their nest destroyed, they began the task of rebuilding it and began nestorations and rebuilt their nest in time for egg laying in November. In fact, they had the nest structure up in as little as two weeks! If M15 & F23 lose their nest, they will rebuild it as well.
After Hurricane Ian hit, we did not have the cams up for three weeks. We don't know if the cams will be down for that long again but we must be patient during this time with the SWFEC team & Pritchett's family. We pray for the safety of all the people that are impacted by Hurricane Milton. Also we hope that M15 & F23 will hunker down safely and hope their nest is spared. Please stay safe during these next few days until the hurricane passes and services can be restored.

M15 & F23 both land on their nest and do some nest work and aerating. They did not bring in any sticks but they did stick around the nest throughout the day. Beautiful closeups of our eagle couple on the attic ♥ F23 will fly off across the street. M15 will vocalize and fly off and return to the U branch. M15 stays in the U branch preening and keeping watch of his territory before he flies off.
