The opening thumbnail and following photos are from MLiz Photos who was at the nest today! M15 & F23 mated on the church snag & M15 brought in sticks & F23 moss to the nest! Thank you MLiz photos for these amazing shots.
F23 woke up on the nest this morning after her overnight incubation. We got some nice closeups of the brown spots/coloring on her tail white feathers! We will keep an eye on these to see when she molts them out over the summer & new feathers grow in if they are pure white or if these spots will be unique to her.
M15 flies in early with a big wad of grasses some of them end up on F23's head! She gets up & flies to the church side snag to preen while M15 covers the egg with some grass and then takes over incubation duties. M15 will get up and rearrange the nest rails before joining F23 on the snag. They mate on the snag making sure that egg 2 will be coming soon and then F23 flies back to the nest to incubate and roll the egg.
F23 will fly to the pond this morning and take large sips of water. A minute later she spits the water back into the pond. Then she takes another sip. Perhaps the first sip was too large and came back up (F23 is fine) She flies to the office oak and will come back to the nest with a long string of moss! M15 gets up and starts fixing the sticks at the rails he moves a big one in front of F23 to the other side of the nest. M15 then will go the veranda and fly off for more sticks!
We will be watching F23 tomorrow (Nov 11th) to see if she lays her second egg. Thank you for watching!
