We've stumbled upon a fun annual antique & thrifting event that centers on Grand Island, Nebraska! Unbeknownst to us, this is the final day of Junk Jaunt, an over 300mile loop that takes travelers and vintage fans through small towns and river valleys, accessed through this rail town antique destination. What will we find?

We were just passing through, so we are sticking to Grand Island today, but this gateway to the sales offers plenty enough to keep us busy! We pass some usuallooking garage sales and make our first stop the Congregational Church rummage sale...church sales are often good places to find overlooked and donated gems, and there are some things here worth the picking! It's the last day, so everything unmarked is just $1. A 1970s ball lamp catches our eye, along with 1930s Japanese lusterware, a $5 Hall Airflow teapot (we'll take it!) and a 1970 vintage Sorrento chip and dip set that still has the dip bowl hanger...for just $1.

From there, it's downtown to our original destination, the Railside antique district. Near the 1930s art deco Grand Theater edifice is Heartland Antique Mall, a spacious twostory affair filled with some really unusual antiques and vintage, much at big discounts (up to 50%) for this sale weekend! We discover a space full of early Red Wing crocks, are wowed by a set of fiberglass ball shade MCM lamps, take note of a scarce 1950 Daisy pistol w/targets and enjoy a space full of scotty dogs that match the pair of real scotties the owners have hanging out at the counter. We buy a cool thermometer that belongs back in its home state of Washington, meet a viewer who we help tease her friend for not being with her at this Jaunt, then head out to see what else we can find in the short time we have to spend here.

Across the street, an unnamed shop full of antique and vintage finery is open, and the owner is more than happy to let us browse through three showcases of older Wedgwood Jasperware, yard longs and French furniture, Danish porcelain and wonderful art glass from Victorian cranberry to a pair of MCM Lalique Doves that he offers us at a price we can't refuse! We add a Miller Beer tip tray, a Royal Copenhagen lioness and other quality items to our pile, and quickly spend over $400...and we just scratched the surface!

Walking by nice looking antique shops and malls that we won't have time to see, we start contemplating when our next visit here can be, as we walk into the door of Rusty Lamp Antiques, lured by an already sold Lloyds Loom wicker settee and desk setting outside. Inside, we discover that much of her furniture (arts and crafts desk, stacking bookcase, etc.) is marked sold, purchased by a visiting dealer. We look at the shop's namesake ceiling lamps (including an art deco one we could live with at home), then spy an outofplace 1960s Venetian glass bowl that we buy for only $10!

Grand Island is a fun looking antique and vintage destination yearround, but we might just try to time our next trip through here when we can take the whole Junk Jaunt loop through the towns of central Nebraska.
