Squirrel Nest 3. New 4 squirrel babies born July 20, 2024. Mom has a distinct raccoon tail. She is now named Roxy! As of Nov 3, they live on apple tree in Nest 9, see link below.

Squirrel Rose (Hana's daughter) and 3 babies in Squirrel Nest 9. Babies born Feb 19, 2024.
Hana’s daughter Rose, she brought 2 babies on Aug 5, 2023. They are about 23 weeks old.
Lily gave birth to 6 babies on July 14 and moved them away on August 4 after a failed raccoon attack. JB was evicted by Lily t 1 in late June. Lily and Jelly Bean now live in nest 1 (April 20, 2023)
A new squirrel (Scrappy? or is it Hana with her tail injured?) moved in into Hana’s nest 3 and gave birth (on March 13, 2023). As of Feb 17, 2023 Rose, the last member of Hana’s family to reside in Nest 1, has been driven away by Twinkie.

!Future: 4 weeks eyes will open; 6 weeks exploring the tree; 812 weeks leaving the nest for longer and longer trips; 1016 weeks relocating to a tree nest

Winter months: Hana will take babies away from the nest in September/October to teach nest building and foraging, but in November/December one or two squirrels will likely come back to live in this nest during rain and snow of our winter, and we may even get new baby squirrels in FebruaryMarch!

!Twitching: normal for babies (sign of normal development)

!Fleas: normal for babies (they look healthy and are not bothered by fleas, trust the experts!)

!Hana (mother): seems to be a young first time mother but it’s possible that she’s our Valentine from spring streams

!Father squirrel: is never involved :(

!tunnel Predator baffle/guard: this narrow tunnel/hall at the entrance protects squirrel babies from raccoons and raptors (if they do get there)

!intervention of humans: we do not intervene for fear of mother !wildsquirrel abandoning her babies. We WILL take any injured or sick squirrel to a local rehab IF this is what rehab will recommend us to do.

!cleaning nests: twice a year, with antimite/flea solutions
