VICE’s longtime creative partner, Jake Burghart has helped to craft over 100 documentaries in more than 70 countries. Over 15 years, he worked on many of the films that came to define the sort of hardhitting, courageous, and mindboggling stories that VICE traded in, including “The VICE Guide to Iran,” Dennis Rodman’s visit to North Korea, and ontheground coverage of the 2011 Arab Spring. On these expeditions, he always shot photos for keepsakes, using whatever camera he had with him at the time: a 35mm, medium format, DSLR, or a cheap pointandshoot. We asked Burghart to sift through his hard drives and share the stories behind some of these monumental moments.
