A Gray Catbird sings its varied, conversational song from the wet branches of a small tree at foggy Beech Hill Preserve in Rockport, Maine, early the morning of 17 May 2015. A mimic, the catbird will include snippets of other birds’ calls in its serenade—here, I think I detect a phrase from the song of a Bobolink. This bird gets its name from its mewlike call note. In the background, listen for Eastern Towhee, Chestnutsided Warbler, Common Yellowthroat, Yellow Warbler, and Ovenbird.
