Scary Ice Storm RUINS Husky’s Easter! (She wanted to paint eggs!)

Skaya and I got hit by a scary ice storm! And it ruined all of our Easter plans! ⛈

Skaya and I were filming our Easter special and everything seemed to be going well. As an Easter activity, I set up some eggs for Skaya to paint (using waterbased, nontoxic finger paint, of course). We were peacefully having fun doing this little arts and crafts activity together. Skaya was so excited and couldn’t wait to finish painting her Easter eggs… until something terrible happened.

We were hit by a scary ice storm. What started out as some freezing rain earlier on in the day had turned into an ice storm which mostly affected Eastern Canada. Unfortunately, Montreal (our city) was the most heavy hit. Trees was snapping, breaking off, and falling under the weight of the ice. Countless power lines came crashing down, causing a mass black out for well over 1 million people in our province alone. We stayed without power for 4.5 days, although some were left in the dark for over 6 days. There were even a few fatalities. Honestly, it was a really terrible period of time.

Luckily, we did eventually get our power back – and on Easter, no less! So even though it may not have been anywhere near a perfect Easter, Skaya did finally end up being able to celebrate it in the end, surrounded by her family and loved ones.

If you want to recreate the Easter eggs Skaya made in this video with your own dog, you’ll need some hardboiled eggs, resealable plastic bags (like Ziploc), waterbased paint (washable, nontoxic paint only), and natural peanut butter (with no xylitol). Here are the stepbystep instructions:

1. Put a hardboiled egg inside of a resealable plastic bag.
2. Pour your selected colour(s) into the plastic bag with the egg and seal the bag.
3. Slather peanut butter all over the outside of the sealed bag.
4. Give your dog the prepared bag and let them lick off the peanut butter.
5. Carefully open the bag to reveal your Easter egg. Avoid handling too much so as not to rub off too much paint. Set aside and let your painted egg dry.
6. Repeat steps 1 through 5 with the rest of your eggs!

Hope you enjoyed watching this semihappy, semiscary video about our crazy Easter weekend! And who knows! Maybe we’ll have a more normal Easter next year…?
