Life in Waterworld

With a good weather forecast, we pulled up anchor at Taha’a and headed west to American Samoa.

As we started out, the seas were big and the winds were strong. We were making good time.

The next morning we got some rain squalls and after that the winds were getting lighter. We had a nice sailing at night. It was almost full moon. the sky was clear, full of stars and we had nice wind .Eventually the wind picked up and it was smooth sailing.

The winds died as we were by Suwarrow so we decide to pull in and get some rest. We anchored just before sunset.

The Suwarrow Atoll It’s a Cook Islands National Park and is one of the most isolated and untouched places you can visit. It is only reachable by boat and a dream destination for sailors.

The next morning we put the dinghy in the water and went ashore to explore. There is really nothing here but palm trees, huge numbers of hermit crabs, colonies of sea birds and rich marine life.

The rest of the days we spent some time exploring some of the other motus in the atoll. The motus are populated with thousands of nesting birds who seem to be unafraid of humans.

We could have stayed anchored at Suwarrow for months, but, as usual, it was time to be on the move and continue our voyage to American Samoa.
