I had dreamed of sailing to Hawaii since I was 11 years old. At 23, I designed my own trimaran, 25 feet, and built her in my spare time over a four year period. She was designed for daysailing and weekending at Catalina Island. She was very successful for this purpose.
But I needed more. I sailed her to Mexico three times, including a circumnavigation of Baja California, from the northern Sea of Cortez to Newport Beach. One of the trips was singlehanded. I decided to sail her to Hawaii at 66 years old, while I was still able. Though small, she had proven her seaworthiness many times. Two hurricanes developed on this crossing and headed for Hawaii, along with us! It was the adventure of my life. And hers!
