Hello Campers!
On this weeks episode we are going to talk about an exciting upgrade to the RV. As most of you know our Cougar 5th Wheel is a 2019 model. As to your surprise, we have been planning on replacing the roof from day 1. Why? Because after having our first camper which had water damage (both from a leaking roof and water heater that someone didn’t winterize) we simply could not see another beautiful (and expensive) camper go to ruin after only a few years of service life. You may say, all you have to do is check the seals every 36 months. Which for the most part is true, but all it takes is one small pin hole to let water in and not catch it for a little while and everything then takes a drastic turn for the worse. I can tell you after (attempting) to rebuild a camper with water damage, it’s a much cheaper and easier option to prevent it from ever happening. I did receive a promotional discount for this product, but I did still pay a large portion of the costs. I understand that it is a large investment (I don’t want to go over prices, because I did that once in a video and was inaccurate… and prices change.) I will explain how I made this decision and some things that prompted me to do so. It became evident when I was on the roof in the summer and the TPO was literally stretching under my sandals. I was afraid that alone would cause a pin hole or two in the roof. Just before I got this new trailer, I started seeing advertisements for the RV Roof Armor System. I didn’t know that much about the roof, but what attracted me was the Lifetime warranty that they have. I have since found out that not only is the warranty a lifetime warranty, but it is essentially a transferable lifetime warranty. The warranty information is stored under the RV’s VIN number. A lot of warranties around have a lot of restrictions, so are there any restrictions on an RV Armor Roof? The short answer is no. According to Lee Thaxton, President of RV Roof Armor, some of the competitors advertise lifetime warranties, but you have to return and have an inspection every so often. With RV Roof Armor you never have to have it inspected. They are that confident in their product. Lee actually says in many of his videos that basically when you pay to have your roof put on RV Armor essentially take ownership of your roof and they see it as their problem to fix if there are any problems with it. For the process itself, a trained RV Roof Specialist is going to be sent to your camper (you don’t even have to move it in most situations.) The tech was professional and did cover my vents and made sure everything was buttoned up before a rainfall one day. This also added another day for the install. He stated that the rain doesn’t hurt anything and all three layers still chemically bond together just like nothing had ever happened. It’s important to note that each coat that they do goes just a little further than the last coat, which in theory promotes adherence. This is true for the front and back strips, as well as the gutters along the sides. I’m very happy with my seamless roof (rubber roof) from RV Armor. It gives me great security in knowing I don’t have to constantly worry about water intrusion in my camper. It also is supposed to add some insulation value to the roof as well. It does need to be said that they do your entire roof, but they do not do the tops of slides.
