Explore the crayfish of the Midwest with Dusty Swedberg of the Illinois Natural History Survey. Crayfish can often be overlooked even though numerous species occur under your feet in your front lawn or just under the surface at your local stream or river. The essential ecosystem functions that burrowing and stream crayfish play in their respective environments are critical for a healthy functioning ecosystem. However, due to invasive species, climate change, and poor land practices, many species in the Midwest have started to suffer and decline. I hope to show you the diverse crayfish of the Midwest and explain why many species are in dire need of conservation.
