When you hear the name Kadylack Farm you may think that Atwood, Ont., farmers Steve Terpstra and his fiancee Dianne De Jong spend their time cruising around in a big automobile.
But as it turns out, the farm name is more about family than fancy cars. As Terpstra explains in our latest episode of RealAg Shops, the name is actually a creative combination of the names of his three children — Kayla, Dylan and Jack.
There's also plenty of creativity in the new Kadylack Farm shop which plays an important role in the corn, soy, wheat and canola cash crop operation, and a sunflowers and agritourism venture. In this tour, Terpstra shares how the 80 X 250 foot shop is divided into three main areas — an 80' X 80' main shop, a 26' X 104' wash bay and a 125' X 80' storage area. There's also a 20' X 80' area for the office, staff and meeting rooms and the party room.
The shop has become the operational backbone for the cash crop business and also a beacon for Terpstra and De Jong's Kadylack Farm Sunflower Walk. That business now draws huge crowds to the farm every summer to enjoy a threekilometre walk through a 100acre field of sunflowers with a portion of the proceeds going to support local charities including the Canadian Mental Health Association HuronPerth, Huron Centre for Children’s Mental Health and the Tanner Steffler Foundation.
It's also a great place to throw an engagement party!
