A great little session working on Chip’s reactivity to cows. (With special guest Poppy as support dog!)

Step 1. Find a distance from the trigger (eg cows) that your dog can look at their trigger without reacting and begin to focus and take treats. That may be 100m! And it may be different on different days!

Step 2. At first you will “yes” and reward your dog for looking at the trigger and not reacting.

Step 3. After several sessions your dog will begin to associate treats with looking at the trigger. So you will notice them glancing towards you after looking at the trigger. “Yes” and reward their focus on you.

Try reducing the distance gradually over time if your dog is staying under threshold and having moments of great focus.

Remember that training a reactive dog should look boring! The aim is that your dog doesn’t react!
