I am still trying to help a newborn kitten that was abandoned by its mother cat after giving birth. This could have happened for several reasons:
1. This is the mother cat's first birth and she could have become confused
2. The kitten has internal pathologies and is not able to live.
With some amazing sense, the mother cat understands that the newborn kitten is too weak and is not able to live. The cat will never try to help such a kitten. In nature, this is called natural selection.
But we are people. And we will fight for the life of every living creature. I feed the newborn kitten myself, but I understand that he is getting weaker. He does not have a sufficient sucking reflex and every gram of milk he drinks is perceived by me as a feat.
What should you do if you find yourself in the same situation:
1. Provide warmth for the kitten. Newborn kittens are not able to maintain their temperature on their own. We have a special heated floor, but you can use a heating pad or bottles with warm water. The main task is to warm the kitten.
2. Feed the kitten every 2 hours with a special milk for kittens. Regular milk is not suitable and can be dangerous for the kitten. Such mixtures are sold in pet stores.
3. If the mother cat does not lick the kitten after each feeding, he needs to have his stomach massaged. His stomach and intestines will not work without such a massage!
4. Remember that not everything depends on you. But you do everything you can.
