Decompression Diving! Most of us have heard about it, some of us even do it. For many, its the 'Dark Magic' that goes on beyond recreational limits which we never intend to shine a light on. Our aim in this video, with the help of our pal Lyell Hogg from Everything Scuba [ / @everythingscuba ] is to highlight a little about the more technical side of diving....
Lyell is an Instructor at North Iowa Scuba and recent convert to CCR diving. As part of his training, he conducted his first decompression dives which got us talking about the planning considerations needed to conduct those dives just the things we needed to think about. The point we highlighted is that once you open that box, it changes the way you think about and plan EVERY dive not just the decompression dives. But why would you want to do a decompression dive?
We have a beautiful wreck dive here in Carriacou. The Troll. Its down at 125ft, which means most people get about 1020 minutes on the wreck depending on what they're breathing. That's not nearly long enough to explore this mammoth tug boat. Planning and executing a dive on the troll as a decompression dive, means you can explore this beast for 3040 minutes with the basic level of decompression diving training meaning you have plenty of time to take in the whole wreck and the marine life within. Now that starts to sound appealing doesn't it?
But as Lyell and I discover, there is a lot more to decompression diving than just strapping on an extra tank. So we decided to share with you some of those additional planning considerations. If diving deeper for a little bit longer is something that appeals to you, please be sure to contact your local technical or extended range instructor and start your journey to the Dark Side.....
