We’re really excited to announce the birth of a healthy male Nyala calf born Monday 6 January, 2020. Some of our lucky visitors even got to witness the birth!

Nyala are mediumsized antelopes native to southern Africa. Hunting and habitat loss are major threats to wild Nyala, and over 80% of the total population is protected in national parks and sanctuaries.

The Nyala at Wellington Zoo are part of a regional breeding programme for these beautiful animals.
