Northern Flickers have a variety of calls that can help us identify and interpret the activities of these fascinating woodpeckers.
Flickers are actually one of the first birds I highly recommend learning to anyone living in North America because they're so common and provide some amazing insights about our local forests.
This video highlights the courtship call which can be used to find northern flicker nests. We also looked at the "Kleer" call, which is a very common alarm sound made by flickers. I included a great example of a flicker alarming at a barred owl.
We also covered a couple other less common and less obvious sounds to be aware of.
