No Water No Plants No Soil │ Flour Terrarium │ Booklice Colony Within a Jar of Flour

In this video we take a look at a jar I made recently. Unlike my usual jars this is not intended to be self sustaining ecosystem. Due to having no plants within the jar I have to open it from time to time in order to provide fresh oxygen. I never provide water or extra food to these organisms. They gain all the moisture they need from their flour substrate.

Booklice are known to eat starch, glue and paper, but they can also be agricultural pests. It is not uncommon for them to be found in kitchens feeding on cereal grains, flour and yeast. Flour contains starch which the Booklice are adapted to digest.

Booklice tend to prefer damper conditions, however this specific strain was found on paper in a very dry place. I am interested to see how this colony adapts to the new conditions I've provided.

I do have plans for this species in an upcoming project. Stay tuned and you might see these little guys return for a future video.
