This was such a sweet moment that Gabby & Beau shared I really did not want to edit it too much. I think this one of their most affectionate moments we have seen on cam!
First thing in the morning, they mate on the nest after Beau brought some moss. Then later in the day, they both arrive back to the nest to do some light nest work. There is a short mating attempt by Beau and then a few minutes later, they mate successfully for the second time!
Afterwards, they both share some sweet moments lying next to one another, little beakies from Beau and Gabby and Gabby softly cooing. They look like a beautiful bonded couple now seeing them interact together in this manner for about a half hour. Beau would gently take some grass off of Gabby's feathers and she was cooing softly. This is one way a bonded pair will express affection for one another touching beaks, preening one another, rubbing, pecking & soft vocals. Then Beau went up sunset branch and Gabby would eventually head up to a branch as well to roost for the night.
Eggs are typically laid between 510 days after successful copulation. Last Friday Nov 29th we saw a successful mating on the nest, two mating's on Dec 6th and two mating's on Dec 7th. Eggs could be laid anytime between now and Dec 17th. And we don't see what they do away from the cams and nest tree! Gabby's behavior is showing signs she is in her fertile period so love is in the air! Thank you for watching!
For additional information on the matting/egg laying process here is an excellent article from Raptor Resource Project : https://www.raptorresource.org/2024/0...
The window for egg laying is now until Dec 17th! We are certainly on egg watch! Thank you for watching!
