About
Mother Teresa, born Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu on August 26, 1910, in Skopje, Macedonia, was a renowned humanitarian and Roman Catholic nun. She dedicated her life to serving the poorest of the poor, becoming a symbol of selflessness and compassion.

In 1928, at the age of 18, Mother Teresa joined the Sisters of Loreto and traveled to India, where she taught at a school in Kolkata (formerly known as Calcutta). While working as a teacher, she witnessed the dire poverty and suffering in the slums surrounding her school. This experience deeply impacted her and inspired her to devote herself to helping the most destitute.

In 1950, Mother Teresa founded the Missionaries of Charity, a religious congregation that focused on providing care and support for the sick, abandoned, and dying. The organization grew rapidly, establishing homes, clinics, and centers around the world. Mother Teresa's personal commitment to serving the marginalized was unwavering, and she often personally attended to the needs of the poor, touching countless lives with her compassion.

Mother Teresa's work gained global recognition and earned her numerous awards, including the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. However, she remained humble and continued her mission to alleviate suffering without seeking personal recognition. Her tireless efforts to help those in need earned her the nickname "Saint of the Gutters."

Beyond her humanitarian work, Mother Teresa was also known for her strong faith and unwavering belief in the inherent dignity of every human being. She saw the face of Jesus in the suffering and believed that love and compassion could bring hope and healing to the world.

Mother Teresa passed away on September 5, 1997, but her legacy lives on. The Missionaries of Charity, under the leadership of her successors, continues to carry out her mission, providing aid to millions of people in need. Mother Teresa's life and work serve as a powerful reminder of the profound impact one person can have when guided by love and a genuine desire to help others. Her example continues to inspire individuals around the world to reach out and make a difference in their own communities.
