Jim McCloughan is a Vietnam War veteran who was born in South Haven, MI in 1946 and was drafted after college in 1968. He served with the 3/21st Infantry in the 196th Light Infantry Brigade, 23rd (Americal) Division as a combat medic. He fought in several major battles, including Tam Ky, and received two purple hearts during his tour. At Tam Ky, he rescued multiple wounded men under enemy fire over the course of two days, and refused to be evacuated after being wounded on the first day because he'd be needed on the second. In 2017, he received a belated Medal of Honor for his heroism.
