Two weeks ago, I picked up some Commodore computers from a friend. The C64C just worked; however, the C64 has an issue causing shifting colors on screen and the Deadtest Color RAM test to lock up. I don't think this is a secret "disco mode"...
According to what I've found online, this issue can be a bad 2114 (color RAM), a bad 4066, and/or a bad PLA. I already tried another 2114 without success... I have a hunch it's the PLA. Of course, neither the 4066 nor the PLA are socketed.
Will it be the 4066? Will it be the PLA? Or will it be some random other chip that's not a usual suspect? You'll have to watch to find out!
