A bridge collapsed and a bus was swept away by flooding in Vietnam, raising the death toll from flooding in the southeast Asian country to at least 64 after Typhoon Yagi swept through the region.

Authorities say nine people died on Saturday after Typhoon Yagi made landfall in Vietnam after being downgraded to a tropical depression. The rest died in floods and landslides that followed on Sunday and Monday.

“The damage done to this community is extremely severe. Most of the roof was blown away or the ceiling caved in. It may take three to four years for this place to look the same again because the damage is so severe,” said Bui Van Thuy, a Hai Phong resident. “The surrounding looks like an apocalypse day. Never before has a storm dealt this much damage to us.”

Officials said four bodies were recovered and 15 others are still missing after a bus carrying 20 people was swept into a flooded stream by a landslide on Monday. Elsewhere in Vietnam, a steel bridge collapsed, leaving 13 people missing.

The storm previously caused 20 deaths in the Philippines and four in China.
