My name is Anneka and I've howled with wolves all over the world. Today I will play you the different types of howls there are and explain to you what they all mean and when wolves use them.
You have the 'Confrontational Howl' used when wolves defend their territory, you have the 'Lonesome Howl' when a wolf is trying to locate his pack, the 'Rallying Howl' when wolves gather the pack for a hunt, the trickster 'Chorus Howl' to deceive neighbouring wolf packs into thinking pack numbers are greater, the 'Affectionate Howl' and the 'Pup Howl'.
Thankyou to Fred H. Harrington who is Professor of Ethology at Mount Saint Vincent University, Nova Scotia for sampling the different howls.
