ARNE ANKA IS STILL ALIVE — AND AVAILABLE IN ENGLISH: arneanka.org
An independent comics artist in Sweden is threatened by the Walt Disney Company over his crazy and funny Donald Duck parody series, and comes up with a genius plan to get out of trouble — through creative use of the comics medium! This is my favorite story about art involving trademark or copyright law, and it's a lot funnier and more interesting than that sounds.
Arne Anka (Swedish), or Arne And (Norwegian) as I know him, is a crude, filthy, sarcastic, incisive Scandinavian indie cartoon character — drawn beautifully. Arne Duck is obsessed with sex and drinking, and is decidedly an outsider with the feel of underground comix, but he actually reached impressive popularity in his native Sweden, even ending up as a very successful theater piece!
In Scandinavia, Donald Duck is an even more popular Disney cartoon character than Mickey Mouse — Donald is arguably the most wellknown comics character across all ages in Sweden, so making a Donald parody there is particularly potent.
