There are always rabbits running in and out of the run in, they take advantage of the hay and other horse treats that drop to the ground. This brave rabbit built her nest right up in the corner of the run in beside Svenny's hanging hay bag.

It is likely that the mother built her nest here as the horses, along with their smell, help block out the scent of the baby rabbits that might attract any hungry predators. Lots of coyotes in the area that would be quite happy to make a meal out of this nest.

Sven saw the rabbit as soon as he turned the corner and he was so gentle and careful, just very curious. Have to say the rabbit was quite brave going nose to nose with him and protecting her nest.

We saw this interaction on the ring and went down to check it out and make sure that the nest was not in an area that was in danger of getting stepped on. Because it is up tight to the corner it seems like a safe location. The babies also look like they are close to leaving the nest so have been there for a few weeks as well. We thought it was safer to leave them be rather than risk moving the nest and having the mother abandon the babies.
