December 25, 2023, during our winter road trip, we actually planned to visit Antelope Canyon, however due to the cancellation by the trip operator we booked for 26th December.

On 25th December we thought of visiting some attractions nearby.

First we went to Horseshoe Bend Overview point.

A social media darling, Horseshoe Bend has become one of the most recognized and visited places in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. The parking lot and trailhead is located off US Highway 89, approximately 5 miles (8 km) south of the Carl Hayden Visitor Center.

Hiking

The hike to the overlook is 1.5 miles (2.4 km) roundtrip over a hardened path. The trail is accessible under the regulations of the Americans with Disabilities Act. There are two shade structures along the length of the trail, but not at the overlook. There are railings at the edge of the overlook's viewing platform, but not along the trail.

Parking Fees

Horseshoe Bend itself is in the park, but the parking lot is on city land. The City of Page requires visitors to pay for parking at the Horseshoe Bend trailhead. National Park Service passes do not apply for the parking lot. Contact the City of Page for questions about the parking at Horseshoe Bend at their website here.

PLEASE NOTE: On Holidays and busy weekends, the City of Page may require all visitors to use a shuttle to visit once the parking lot is full. Check with them if you plan to visit during busy times.

After visiting Horseshoe Bend, we visited a red rock formations on the way to Glenn Canyon Dam. This is located just behind a shell gas station. This spot was suggested by few people who came from San Antonio they are staying in our hotel. This is a less explored destination, no entrees fees, we can spend how much ever time you want. And also nice place for video/photo shoot.

We had lunch from the same gas station and directly went to Glenn Canyon Dam.

Glen Canyon Dam is a concrete archgravity dam in the southwestern United States, located on the Colorado River in northern Arizona, near the city of Page. The 710foothigh (220 m) dam was built by the Bureau of Reclamation (USBR) from 1956 to 1966 and forms Lake Powell, one of the largest manmade reservoirs in the U.S. with a capacity of more than 25 million acrefeet (31 km3). The dam is named for Glen Canyon, a series of deep sandstone gorges now flooded by the reservoir; Lake Powell is named for John Wesley Powell, who in 1869 led the first expedition to traverse the Colorado River's Grand Canyon by boat.

Lake Powell Overlook Point

This is an amazing overlook to the Lake Powell and its surroundings.
