One of the amazing abilities of Steller's Jays is to mimic large predatory birds (raptors) during foraging to eliminate competition and scare other birds away. Our local Steller's Jays learned to mimic Redshouldered Hawks, but they are not fooling experienced birders and especially Jackie and Shadow, who were observing the shenanigans from the Stick Depot Snag (SDS) today.

Are they fooling other birds though? We will really start to worry when we see one of them chortling like an eagle.
