Maharashtra's new Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has taken charge at a time when the state faces challenges on multiple fronts.
Fadnavis will have to contend with the state's mounting debt, high unemployment, agrarian crisis and demands like the Maratha reservation. The election promises and the welfare schemes of the Mahayuti will have to be financed on tight budgets.
But, the expectations too are high.
First, Fadnavis has taken office on the back of an unprecedented landslide victory for the Mahayuti coalition which won 230 out of the 288 assembly seats.
Two, the corporate style of governance seen during Fadnavis 1.0 from 2014 to 2019 had witnessed speed in implementation of big infrastructure projects.
This time a key factor to watch out for will be the chemistry between the three allies. Between 2014 and 2019, Fadnavis had one ally, the undivided Shiv Sena, to work with. In his third tenure, Fadnavis will have to strike the right balance with his two ambitious allies and deputy chief ministers Shiv Sena's Eknath Shinde and NCP's Ajit Pawar.
